Project Connect: A One‑Day Lifeline for People Facing Housing Insecurity

In 2024, Threshold CoC revived Project Connect, a free, one-day event designed to bring people experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity together with a wide range of supportive services.

This event provides a one-stop opportunity for people to connect with a range of direct service providers. This year, Project Connect will be held on October 21 at Baxter Arena and include many of the same services to ensure that our neighbors have access to essential resources and supports.

During this guided event, volunteers help guide participants through the Baxter Arena concourse and support them in accessing the services they need. Last year’s event was a successful collaboration of sponsors, partners, and volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering at this annual event, please register here.

Project Connect 2024 Impact:

On October 9, 2024 we hosted 58 provider organizations at Baxter Arena for Project Connect and were able to reach 277 individuals facing housing instability. Available services included:

• Healthcare & Wellness Services

• Legal Aid

• Medicaid & Disability Benefits Application Assistance

• Housing & Shelter

• Workforce Assistance

The guest I was able to assist had a lot of needs… applied for Medicaid, got a flu shot, had an intake with legal aid… and more.

Why Project Connect is important:

With dozens of local agencies working together, Project Connect is an example of how communities can better serve their most vulnerable neighbors by offering comprehensive, stigma‑free support all in one powerful day.

The event offers:

  • Centralized, comprehensive care: Participants “check off” multiple needs in one visit—streamlining access and minimizing stress.

  • Local coordination: The event reflected the strength of the Continuum of Care model, leveraging a broad network of service providers in Douglas, Sarpy, and Pottawattamie counties.

  • Community impact: By connecting hundreds of our neighbors with critical resources in one afternoon, Project Connect makes a positive impact toward our goal of ensuring homelessness is rare, brief, and non-recurring.

Project Connect represents the kind of compassionate, practical outreach that can bridge gaps and help stabilize the lives of community members our CoC serves.
