Make a Direct Impact: Help Us Prepare for January’s PIT Count

Every January, our community participates in the annual Point-in-Time (PIT) Count, a nationwide effort to understand who is experiencing homelessness in our community so we can better coordinate our systems of support. Here in the Omaha metro, our Street Outreach team conducts the PIT Count and meets people exactly where they are. During the winter PIT Count and year-round, trained groups distribute essential supplies like food, water, winter gear, socks, hygiene kits, and other necessities items that help people stay safe while we work together to secure long-term housing solutions.

This past year showed just how effective coordinated, compassionate outreach can be. Through our Street Outreach pilot, shelter partnerships, and rehousing efforts, our community is seeing meaningful progress. These outcomes happened because we invested in strategies that work, bringing solutions, not judgment, to our neighbors and providing a pathway to housing. The work of providing basic necessities to those living unsheltered is deeply connected to these strategies.

As we prepare for the upcoming PIT Count on January 27, our outreach team is ramping up efforts to ensure every person we encounter receives care and essential items. This work relies on donations of tangible goods. Items like warm clothing, gloves, hats, hand warmers, hygiene products, snacks, bottled water, and other necessities make a direct and immediate difference. These are not just supplies, they are tools that help us build trust, open conversations, and connect people to housing resources.

How You Can Help Today

You can directly support your neighbors by donating the items our outreach team distributes during the PIT Count and throughout the coldest months of the year. We’ve made it easy to give:

  • Purchase items from our Amazon Wishlist.

  • Donate new or unused winter gear, hygiene supplies, or shelf-stable snacks.

  • Support our work with a financial gift to help us purchase high-need items.

When you give, you are supplying essential tools into the hands of folks who truly care about the wellbeing of our unsheltered neighbors. Your generosity helps ensure that we can reach more people, offer meaningful support, and continue moving our community toward a future where homelessness is rare, brief, and non-recurring. Join us this January. Donate today, and help us bring warmth, care, and hope to our neighbors.
